The first demo of Grass Mania : Need For Grass has just been released! It features a fully completed introduction, UI system and a single level. What is done so far? The gameplay is almost done: the player can choose start positions, rotate the camera, select grass squares, mow them, control the dog. We have particles, a skeletal character, some fog, nice lighting, correct blending and some other features, like water, nice looking skydome. What is more to be done? We need to polish the in-game menu. So far there is no normal way to exit end, quit or exit the game other than hitting ESC. Also, we need to make the help button work. It will give random tips about the gameplay and help the player with finishing the level. Also, the map panel also needs to be improved. So far the player can see where the dog is, what grass squares have been cut and where the obstacles. The map panel must also show where power-ups showed up. Improvements are upcomming for the power-up panel as well. Power-up icons should blink for a while after they have been picked up. In addition, we are considering making a tutorial level. There will be a special tutorial button added in the main menu. Also things like windowed mode, or options for turning on/off details, multitexturing etc. Finally, Sean Oyler has finished a couple of soundtracks and SFX, so Grass Mania will soon have in-game music and sounds!
